matcher was built from a personal dev tool, helping me with my job search.
I decided to make it into a product; below, I share my intention for the future with it.

Humanize the copy
For the sake of quickly building, a lot of the copy on the site is AI-generated from context. I've been making my way through each page (slowly) and cleaning it up, rewriting most of the sentences, and trying to ensure my voice is present.

Standardized role shapes
Given that we ingest a tonne of job descriptions, I'd like to find a way to create value for our users from that data. Since the classification step largely just normalizes the JDs towards a set of skills, my initial intent was to identify "employee personas" across role types and seniorities, likely towards helping users (1) speak to the skills they have from roles they've held and (2) identify what skills they might need to pivot into new roles.
Improving how the job search experience works, outside of this app
Part of the underlying goal of this app is to refine, research, and improve the skills matching - right now, a simple algorithm with simple weights for scoring. I'm not sure what I intend to do with it yet, but the job search experience (in general, not in the app) is trash and deserves some attention so this is my attempt to move towards bettering it.
Which companies should we pull from?
Right now, we have a pre-compiled list of around 300 companies, pulled initially when this was a private tool for myself, as a software engineer. That means many of the initial group of companies (around 50 to 100) are in the engineering space. I tried to introduce more depth to the chosen companies, but didn't necessarily strongly consider things like stability, political activity, etc. You can view the companies we currently cover here: http://matcher.barelybrand.co/companies
